The Crow and the Mouse – A Story of True Friendship
🌳 A Quiet Forest and Two Different Lives
There was a very large banyan tree in a quiet forest not far from a small village. Every morning birds sang, and small animals lived safely under its shade.
Clever crow Kalu was living at the top of the tree. He was clever, quick, and wary of danger.
A little mouse named Mintu had a home under the same tree in a little hole in the ground. Little in size, but with a big heart.
They were neighbors but didn’t talk for long periods.
One of them lived in the sky; the other lived under the earth.
One day, however, it all changed.
🌿 The First Meeting
One morning Kalu flew down to look for food. He witnessed Mintu was trying to bring a small grain of rice to his hole.
The grain was too big for his small body. He tried and tried, but he couldn’t.
Kalu stood in silence and spoke,
“Why do you have to work so hard by yourself?”
Mintu looked up and replied,
“If I don’t work today, then there will be no food for me tomorrow.
The following simple words pierced Kalu’s heart.
He knew with a little creature, there is great responsibility.
It was that day that a beautiful friendship was formed.
❤️ A Growing Friendship
As the days went by, Kalu became a close friend of Mintu.
Each night Kalu would sit on the tree branch and tell stories about the sky, rivers and distant lands.
Mintu heard them but hung his head in his hole, wishing to see the world outside.
They laughed at times, they remained silent at other times, but they were always happy together.
Others animals were dumfounded.
“How could a crow and a mouse be friends?” they wondered.
Kaluh and Mintu didn’t give a shit.
True friendship is not about size or strength, it’s about heart and trust.
⚠️ Danger in the Forest
One morning, Kalu flew far away searching for food. He was flying over a field when he spotted something dangerous.
A large net has been set down on the ground, and grains spread to attract birds.
Kalu was instantly aware of something.
“It is a trap, I think,” he said to himself.
Some pigeons, however, weren’t in on the plot. They arrived and happily ate!
Suddenly—WHOOSH!
The net fell down.
The entire flock of pigeons were caught.
They shrieked, their wings fluttered in terror.
🕊️ A Lesson of Unity
The leader of the pigeons gave a shout,
“Don’t panic! Everyone flap together!”
At the same time all pigeons began to flap their wings.
Over time, something unthinkable took place.
The net was becoming heavier and heavier in the air!
Even Kalu was surprised at their unity.
They both flew off with the net looking for safety.
They finally reached close to the forest in which Mintu resided.
🐭 Mintu Becomes a Brave Hero
Mintu could see the pigeons struggling in the cage.
He hurried toward them, and without hesitation.
“Something must be done, he said, I must help them.
With his keen teeth he began to bite the firm ropes of the net.
The ropes were of good thickness. His jaw was very sore. From his mouth there was blood.
He didn’t give up though.
“Not like this I will leave them,” he whispered.
The game was long and hard fought and finally the net broke.
It was time for the pigeons to fly free!
They expressed gratitude to Mintu and then took off happily.
🪤 The Dark Day for Kalu
A few days later, something awful did occur.
One day, Kalu was looking for food when suddenly—
SNAP!
He got trapped in a hunter’s net.
He attempted to try and run away from it, but the further that he ran, the harder it became.
The woods went still. It was beginning to get dark.
Kalu felt hopeless.
Sadly, ‘is this the end of my life?’, he thought.
He shouted,
“Help! “Help me! Someone!,” she pleaded.
❤️ True Friendship in Action
Mintu was in the vicinity gathering food. He heard a voice, Kalu’s voice.
His heart stopped.
“Kalu!” he shouted and sprinted off as fast as he could.
He arrived at the location and found himself with his best friend in trouble.
Without wasting time, Mintu started biting the net again.
His body hurt. His teeth ached. But his desire to love was greater than his own pain.
“My friend will be safe, I will save him”, he thought.
Finally, after a prolonged struggle, the net came off.
Kalu was free!
Just then, they saw the hunter coming from far away.
Soon into the forest they had gone and they were hiding safely.
🌈 A Friendship That Never Ends
Tired, but safe, Kalu and Mintu sat under a tree.
Kalu said softly,
Thanks for saving my life.”
Mintu smiled and replied,
“A good friend never leaves a bad friend.
Henceforth, their friendship was a testament to trust and loyalty among the forest dwellers.
